MACBETH
Written by William Shakespeare
June 5 – July 5 | 2025
After five years of much needed comedies and romances, we will return to Shakespeare’s tragedies with one of his finest – and shortest; the electrifying “Scottish play”. This popular ‘Shakespearean noir’ is exciting as a murder mystery, but it is its palpable and sensual atmosphere that really grabs us. For gloomy intensity, there’s nothing like it in all of Shakespeare. The play hasn’t been performed at the Ruins since 1996 – in fact, that was the company’s last mainstage production of the play. It is an infamously challenging play to stage effectively, but the naturally haunting setting of the Trappist Park will provide much magic and room for thrilling battles.
A promenade performance in and around the monastic Ruins at Trappist Monastery Provincial Heritage Park.
